| What Would a New FS Mean to Us? |

It certainly would be an interesting prospect wouldn't it? How would the community feel about a new FS? Some would be apprehensive because they have so many paid add-ons for FSX, they would hate to basically dump them for the new FS; they would become the new FS9 crowd. Some, probably like me, would jump ship - if it's that good of a product. Who knows what would become of the freeware guys? Would Aerosoft put out some sort of SDK so average Joes could make aircraft and scenery? I think that Aerosoft would pretty much have to put out some sort of SDK, because a lot of the support of the product comes from the freeware community. If they were to make a new FS and made it so that you could only use payware on it, they would turn a lot of people off. Having an SDK promotes the use of the product, not detracts from it. And by the way, Aerosoft, make it simple to use. You might take some hints from the playbook of Google's Sketchup program, in which people can fairly easily draw 3D objects to be placed in another application (in Google's case, Google Earth). The community would find some guys running into their bomb shelters, and refuse to give up their FSX, even FS9, because "it works just fine for them". God help guys still stuck on FS 2002 or older. I guess I can understand their reluctance, but if the simulator is so much better than FSX, wouldn't you think that maybe it's time to migrate? What would the community want in order to entice them away from the Microsoft FS platform? If you go to the Aerosoft forum on the topic, the wish list is huge. You have developers speaking computer-ese, and then ordinary guys like us with our desires. Personally, I'd like to see streaming satellite shots from Google's maps used as scenery textures, so you'd actually see reality-correct streets and landmarks as you fly over your home town, for example. Having aircraft that actually break apart realistically would be nice too, instead of the FS just freezing on impact. Character creation would be interesting, in which you could make your own pilot and have him be something you could play with as well. And make animations look more realistic. Right now in MSFS, people's legs move twice the speed of the actual ground they cover, and they apparently have no knee joints! I'm sure you have your own laundry list as well. Well, it's fun to dream what Aerosoft might do, and what they may come up with. It's up to them to make that dream come true.

Let's assume Aerosoft comes out with a new FS; What will that mean to the FS Community?
